Welcome to this week's blurb!

Brickadia has been delayed to Q1 2024.

Now if you're like me, waiting on the game for news on whether or not it will come out this month or next month (August and September respectively), then you're either a little peeved or feel a bit defeated. Unfortunately, it appears the general target for Brickadia's release will be aimed towards January, February, and March. While the developers in the blog state that even that in itself is concrete on whether or not release will be a little bit before or even be a little bit after that target, we are told that any release date for Brickadia will be relayed to us 2 months in advance:

Now, while this may feel somewhat terrible, hope is not lost. The game is still coming out, that much is certain. The developers of the game have put hard work into this game for many years, and we've had to wait just as long as the developers waiting to release this game as well. Not only that, considering it's only the 8th month of the year, what's a couple more months? The big thing to consider too in regard to all of this is the fact that since we will be notified 2 months in advance on when the release date of Brickadia could come, that means that, if we are to expect Brickadia to come out within the span of those 3 months, that we could hear news as early as October to January. However, we'll have to just wait and see. While it sucks that this is the second delay in Brickadia's release schedule, that doesn't mean they haven't been doing anything all this time.

The big thing to remember to is that while it sucks, just remember that making a good game takes time. If these developers need more time, then that's just how it is. Besides, a couple months should pass pretty quick, and by the time we get to any sort of release, who knows what developments they could've made in that time that we wouldn't have gotten within the next 2 months! Not only that, this blurb post, we'll be seeing a major development just revealed from behind the scenes in our speculation column, so don't go away just yet!

On a brief note, apologies that this blurb came out on Tuesday instead of Monday, I had a bit of a medical emergency I had to tend to for the past two days. Everything is fine, and I am currently doing alright, again that banner looks like something terrible happened, but that's just my brief reaction to the delay news. I hate delays, and I really want to play the Early Access version of this game, but that's just how it be.

Now with all that out of the way, let's check out what's going on with the community this week:

Now we arrive at this week's user column!

Each week I will be asking members of the Brickadia community a question relevant to Brickadia at the moment, whether that be in regard to development, speculation, or even just hopes and desires surrounding the game itself.

The question this week is:

How do you feel about Brickadia being delayed to Q1 2024?

Cryptic Runner

"I was pretty hyped for it to come out soon but I had a big gut feeling it'd be delayed. Behaviors and vehicles didn't have much shown off in the Discord server which led me to assume those features were still under development and not in the most presentable state, so I was expecting a delay and I'm actually kinda glad it happened, since they'll have more time to polish those features."

Super

"It doesn't affect me in a major way. I have already accepted to take Brickadia as a niche thing I'm interested in that may or may not become relevant in more of my circles. But the developers have put themselves in a difficult position. Currently, Brickadia is poised to be a game with a server that you authenticate into in which your actions may be moderated by game staff; the game also has plans to moderate some user-generated content through an online platform. For all of its development history going into this day, Brickadia has been developed as a passion project, something the developers only want to do for fun, money being a secondary incentive. I do not think the developers, or any other staff involved with the game's development, are at the capacity to fulfill promises of this level. I speak from paying attention to the game's development for nearly 5 years now, and I would say this delay says as much. However, I do believe that the features intended for Brickadia's paid release will see the light of day, and they will be no less spectacular than imagined. There's other people that have said this better than I have: 'Honestly I don't think any of what they're actually doing is a problem at all if you look at it as a passion project rather than professional dev work; they're trying so hard to frame it as 'We Are Grown-Ups Making A Big Boy Game' and imo it's the source of literally all of their public perception problems. Once I realized it's just a bunch of goobers making a passion project for themselves and not really something that's meant to be a successful product necessarily it clicked and I stopped caring.' So yeah, take your time. Maybe reconsider what exactly you're planning to do with Brickadia."

Lantz

"I welcome it! The scope expanded since their first delay, and it's clear that expansion was needed to deliver on their high expectations for the game. Paste Shigeru Miyamoto quote here."

Turn that frown upside down!

While Brickadia may have been delayed, that does not mean we have been left without anything to feast on. Recently, our first video of bots in Brickadia has been shown to us by one of the developers and community moderators:

One of the big things to take away from this post straight away is the fact that there appears to be a huge UI upgrade: everything is beveled!

Another key take away is the fact that components appear to have been given a huge array of options now relating both to environments, gameplay, and if you're keen enough to notice at the bottom, wires. Now while it may be difficult to discern at the moment what "Gate | Bool Compare | Equals" may imply, one could speculate that it acts as a sort of if-condition type of brick where given a certain condition, it will give the green-light, if you will, for a certain branch of actions. In other words, it's a if-this-than-that type of brick, but mainly in regard to "if = that" instead of "if > that" or " if < that", if you understand what I'm saying. Outside of that, you may also notice that on the list, there's also options for gameplay elements like checkpoints, goal points, and even spawn points. Could it be possible that instead of having spawnpoints be restricted to minigames that it's possible to set up spawn points for the whole server?

You'll also notice the option for "pulse" at the top of the list. While I myself don't exactly know what this means, a comment from Sixmorphugus may help to clarify this as a behaviors-related function:

Okay, now with all that junk out of the way, now it's time to consider the huge bit here: the literal bots themselves. One thing to notice when the bot is spawned in using components is that it has an edit function in the component itself:

Credit: Bot video

One could assume that this means we could edit the appearance of the bot, give them specific functions like act as an enemy, ally, or perhaps even follow you! But we'll have to wait to see if any of those will be part of bots. Another huge thing to consider is the possibility of having anything related to text dialogue for bots, that would be a huge thing for anyone looking to create RPG-esque servers or builds in Brickadia! If you are able to edit bots in Brickadia, one big hope is that we can easily customize the bot with the presets we created for our own avatars. Perhaps if that is the case, what if we could create sub-folders in the avatar preset list instead of setting the directory for avatar outfits?

Finally, one small take away from this video is the fact that there appears to be a cross-hatch highlight for when bricks being placed are behind other objects of any kind:

Credit: Bot video

The prospect of what bots could do in Brickadia is huge. Imagine having having dozens of bots operate a ship, walking to their spots with a sort of path outlined for them, and having certain behaviors affect when and where they go. Imagine having bots making it seem like they're working on an engine, hammering it in a loop. One big idea of mine would be to have bots march in formations to make designs with their formation, kind of like in football games.

However, we'll just have to wait and see if anything like that happens for Brickadia's bots, it might just be more simple than we realize. Nonetheless though, this is a huge reveal by the developers, and the first time we've seen bots in-game!

DEVS PLEASE ADD ME TO QA I CAN'T WAIT A COUPLE MORE MONTHS CAUSE OF THE DELAY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THROW ME A BONE, PLEASE I PROMISE I WON'T LEAK, COME ON PLEEEEAAASE
