Blurb #3: 3/27/2023
Welcome to this week's blurb!
Let's get straight to the point: this site should be super mobile friendly now. If it doesn't work now, I don't know what will. Thanks to Super again for helping me with formatting this blog!
As this is the last blurb to be released in March, and with the anticipation and hope that Brickadia will indeed release in April of this year 2023...
...we will be asking 3 burning questions from the community to one of the developers of Brickadia!
But who will the developer be...?
Now with that out of the way, let's take a look at the creations and moments for this week in the Brickadia community!
Starting off with something wholesome, two people had their tires stolen:
A house with a satisfying use of the pawn chess piece:
A throwback to an astounding build that relies on reflections and neon bricks:
A Brickadian cultural artifact:
Store progress for Rothary please can i see my family by the end of the year i beg you:
Now I'm just going to cut to the chase cause we have some interesting columns to look at today. Get your glasses, cause this will be quite the read!
Now we arrive to the user column!
Each week I will be asking members of the Brickadia community a question relevant to Brickadia at the moment, whether that be in regard to development, speculation, or even just hopes and desires surrounding the game itself.
For this week, since things are a little special considering April is around the corner, we'll be asking two questions. So, if anything, why not ask questions that show how the community feels about Brickadia and what they're excited about?
The first question this week is:
With the multitudes of features expected to come to Brickadia either upon release or in the future, which feature are you most excited for?
FlavouredGames
"Behaviours so I can make my colonial house interactive and awesome."
Lantz
"One of my favorite mechanics in games have always been mobile bases that you build and upgrade over time, so having giant vehicles that are editable at any time they're moving is an incredibly exciting feature that I can't wait to mess around with!"
Cryptic Runner
"Definitely vehicles or behaviors, it's very hard for me to decide which one of the two is better. It'll be really fun driving around in chases on city streets, riding jetskis across canals and flying planes near mountains. But on the other hand behaviors are much more of a broad thing"
The second question this week is:
What do you enjoy the most about Brickadia, and where do you see it going in the next couple years?
tealia
"I'm not sure what I enjoy most about Brickadia but I can definitely see it going places in the next few years gaining a moderately sized playerbase and social media presence."
room bobcat
"Brickadia has been the almost-perfect spiritual successor to Blockland that I've played, and to many other former Blocklanders. I think that alone has to be my favorite part of this game: we all enjoyed Blockland as kids but wanted something new. When I joined Open Alpha 3 and saw the familiar names from over ten years ago, I just knew that there was something special in the making here. It's why I stuck around, at least.
I see Brickadia becoming something great in the next couple of years. With the addition of wires / brick behaviors and build-able vehicles coming in the next update, I can already see the floodgates opening."
Ghille
"What I enjoy most out of brickadia is the durb blurb and I see brickadia becoming a durb blurb fan game in the next couple years."
Now we get to the highlight of this blurb!
For this segment of the blurb, we will be asking one of the developers of Brickadia, Sixmorphugus, three questions! The question we asked members of the community for this is:
If you could ask a developer one question regarding Brickadia in regard to features, plans, or development, what would you ask?
Here are their questions, along with Sixmorphugus's answers:
Do you think that a system where you could pose, and possibly animate, Brickadian "actors", (A spawnable entity, like a bot.) would be a feature that would be added in the future? Do you think said system could be integrated with bots to give players more freedom in posing NPCS or something along those lines?
- Raelthyk
"No plans for this right now. We're still in the very early stages prior to even having any bots in the first place. It almost definitely won't be in EA."
Brickadia is the spiritual successor to Blockland. So far, Brickadia has gone above and beyond Blockland's capability in regard to the building mechanics a game can provide users. Future plans for adding behaviors and mods are well-known, so the question is: Where do you see Brickadia in five years from now? How will building be different then? How long will the Brickadia platform be supported?
- cutter
"This is three questions, but you can check our FAQ and our Steam page (under "what the developers say" in the early access section) for answers to all of these we currently feel confident giving."
Will vehicles have customizable parameters, such as acceleration, drag, friction coefficients, downforce, health, etc..? If so, how would a player interact with these values?
- Tantiem
"I can't announce any vehicle features at the moment."
Thank you again, Sixmorphugus, for answering these questions!
With some answers from this developer, is there anything we can speculate about?
Based on Sixmorphugus's answer to the first question, Brickadia isn't at the point where it can have bots quite yet. Very much so straight forward, but there is one thing to note about this answer, which we'll come back to in a scond. Taking a look at the second question gives us the equivalent of an answering machine, which is a little unexpected but not the worst at least. Taking a look at the FAQ, which can be seen here, under the question "How will the final version [of Brickadia] differ from Early Access," it reads:
"We plan to implement a robust modding system to let you import your own custom content into the game, add brick terrain editing tools, continue fleshing out the physics, logic and scripting systems, expand the library of bricks and tools inside the game. We regularly work to improve the performance and support larger and larger builds as you build more crazy things. The future is bright!"
With this in mind, Early Access for Brickadia will have huge differences compared to what could be its final version, though only time will tell just how great the differences may be.
The final question to this is given the no-comment treatment, which is entirely understandable from a game development and contract point of view. However, let's consider real quick the fact that the first question in regard to bots and the possibility of there being anything like that was answered in a fairly transparent manner; we will not be seeing bots of any kind, as the game is too early in its stage to even support them. On the other hand, when asking about vehicle interactions, parameters, and the like of such, we are not given an answer. It could be concluded that despite the fact that April is coming around real soon at the time of writing this, vehicles may still be under heavy question at the current moment. What implications this has about the release of vehicles alongside Brickadia's Early Access release or even the release date for Early Access is not clear, so I'll let you, the reader, think about that!
And that's all for this week of the durb blurb!
